When did issue types become work types?

Sam Frank May 3, 2025

I am watching a video by Apetech Tech Tutorials, and had a hard time following because Alex was talking about Issue Types. I just learned that Issue Types are now being called Work Types. When did this happen, and is this only available on the cloud instance of Jira?

Hello @Sam Frank ,
Welcome to the party !

Atllassian renamed issue to work items recently. Earlier everyone were like issues, tickets, task - but that would be 'work items'.

Work items are:

Introduction to work items:

Here's the note about it:

Hi @Sam Frank

Atlassian has renamed Issue to Work Item, including any term related to it, and Issue Type to Work Type is just one change.

These changes have been rolled out in the Jira Cloud environment.

For an official announcement, you may refer to:

Thank you.
