When exporting issues, or creating a dashboard gagdet, you're unabe to reference the epic link (and associated fields).

The only alternative I've found is to reference specifically tasks (no sub-tasks) and pull the parent task. This isn't practical and due to an existing ticket concerning the inability to order by parent, It isnt a comfortable user experience. (JPOSERVER-2269)

This feature exists elsewhere, when will it be available on next-gen projects?

Hello @Antony Fulcher

Welcome to the community.

As far as I know Atlassian does not have any intention of adding the Epic Link field in Team Managed (formerly "next-gen") projects. But I am just another Jira user, so I could be mistaken.

In Team Managed projects, the parent Epic issue key is stored in the Parent field of the child issue.

If you have specific use cases that you can articulate, I would recommend that you raise those in a support case directly with Atlassian to see if there are work arounds or plans to address those use cases.
