Where did the Turn Off Auto-Complete option go when doing Advanced Searching?

I remember in previous versions that there was an option to turn off the Auto Complete feature. I use Advanced Searching exclusively, and I find that the Auto Complete feature is more in the way than helpful. I would like to turn it off, but I can't find the option to. When I searched for it, I found Atlassian instructions saying to find it in the Advanced Search bar, when an Auto Complete is offering suggestions. This where I've seen it before, but it's not there now.

Hi @Aaron Turner,

What is your jira version?
this feature is configured in system setting:

Jira v6.4.12.

Are you saying that this option is now an enterprise wide system, where it's either that everyone has the autocomplete on or off, and not that individual people can have a different setting?

I'm not certain which version it was, maybe v4 or v5, but when I was doing an advanced search and the autocomplete suggestions popped up, there was an additional option to turn off the autocomplete suggestions. This is what I'm looking for; something that will affect only me, and not every user in our system.

When I was searching the JIRA pages, I came across this one: Advanced Searching.

On this page there is a Note that seems to be talking about what I'm looking for:

Please note:

  • If no auto-complete suggestions are offered, your administrator may have disabled the "JQL Auto-complete" feature for your JIRA instance.
  • If you prefer not to be offered auto-complete suggestions, click the "Turn off auto-complete" link below the "Query" box.

I am getting auto-complete suggestions, so it appears that the feature is enabled, but I do not have the link at the bottom of the query box.

This is still a problem for me on the version below. This is most annoying because especially on a laptop screen, if my mouse pointer is over the dropdown and i press tab or enter, the "selected" item is inserted, replacing what i just typed. even worse, if i use the arrow keys to go back or forward, sometimes an item is highlighted and the screen is recentered - i can no longer see what i am typing..

  • v7.13.6#713006
  • no user profile option for this - and i don't have admin access nor would i want to turn this off for everyone.
  • no option to disable appears in the autocomplete list:2020-04-07 12_18_58-[On-Premise Support Team Jira Search] Issue Navigator - SolarWinds JIRA.png
  • screen recentered by using arrow keys..where did the search box go?
  • 2020-04-07 12_24_06-Clipboard.png
  • The only workaround i can see is pressing END, RT ARROW, END, etc to reach the end of the query. pressing ESC exits the autocomplete, but if you hit it twice, and the search box is now scrolled off the screen, the only way is to scroll back up and click back into the box..(or use tabbing).

Please fix?

May be the problem is with your browser.

I was experience the same annoying situacion in Chrome (I checked that the problem was not replicated on Internet Explorer).

If that is your case, to delete the specific input suggestion in Chrome do the following:

Deleting unwanted entries individually

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click inside the form field containing the entry you want to delete.
  3. Press the Down Arrow Key until the entry is Highlighted.
  4. Press the Delete key. If the entry is not removed, press Shift+Delete.
  5. Repeat as needed.

Hope that could help!

Regards!

Thanks for your answer, but no, this is a function of Jira to show the applicable syntax as you type. As above, this is set by the Administrator for _everyone_ on/off. Apparently old versions of Jira had an option for this which would appear at the bottom of the predictive list, to turn it off for current user only, but this option no longer seems to exist.
