Where does work description go after creating a subtask?

One of my developers spent a considerate amount of time creating new subtasks and putting a work description in for each one. Once he clicks the "Create" button, that work description seems to disappear. It's not shown under Work Log or anywhere within the subtask. Where can we find it? Thanks!

Where are they placing this "work description"?

Hi Nic, when they create a new subtask, the work description shows up as a field they can enter. But then when they finish and hit the create button, we cannot figure out where that information gets placed.

Ok, so if it's on create, that suggests it is an issue field.  If it's called "work description", it's not a standard field so it must be a custom field.

Given that, it sounds like you have got a field called "work description" which you have added to the "create" screen for the issue type, but not the view (and possibly edit) screen.  So your users can enter it, but not see it when viewing.

Check the plain issue view screen and also the view settings in the board settings, in case it's not selected there as well.

I am new to Jira, I am an administrator but cannot find the "plain issue view screen" or the "view settings" that you're speaking of to add these options.

Ah, no problem.

Go to the project the issues are in and look at the admin section.  Look for the "issue type screen scheme" and go into it, then into the "screen scheme" for the issue type that is missing the field.  You will find it names "screens" for create, edit, view and default (default is used if any of the others is not set).  Go into the screen for view - I suspect it is missing the "work description" field, which you should be able to add instantly.

That is where I went initially to try and work this out.

So, apparently it is the "log work" option even though it says "work description" on the create screen. But it is not able to be shown on the subtask view and when you click "edit", you are able to log work, but the information provided upon creation still does not appear. I have no idea where this info has gone.

Right, so you said the field appears "on create", but now you've said it is on "log work".

Assuming you were wrong the first time and it is on "log work", then this is the work log description which will appear with the author and time logged in the work log tab on the issue for which they logged it.
