Which file system does JIRA uses.

I want to know that what type of content belongs to the installation directory and home directory in JIRA. and when we update the JIRA what change does JIRA go through and where do those changes store, in installation directory or home directory. If we create, delete, modify etc to issues where do those changes store. if a problem occurs how do I know where I have to look upon, the installation directory or the home directory.
