We would like to set up new permission schemes with new roles.
We would like to use a more simple approach to naming the roles. But we are told by our JIRA admins that there is a set of default roles that cannot be deleted. Where can I find this list?
My JIRA admin says that almost all roles I can see in a project are there by default and I am having a hard time believing that.
Can I as a non JIRA Admin somewhere find a list of the default project roles which cannot be deleted?
Thanks so much!
The default project roles depends on your instance, but they usually are Administrators, Developers, and Users. If you also have JSM you would also see Service Desk Team and Service Desk Customers. You can find more information about project roles here.
Hi Mikael,
i had checked on this link before, but did not find a list of default roles. But I need to be sure which cannot be deleted by our JIRA admins and which can be. Since I am not a Jira Admin myself I cannot check, if there is a delete option next to a role or not.
So far my Jira Admin tells me, that many more than just the ones you have mentioned are default and cannot be deleted, may I mention a few? In addition to Developer and Administrator, we have these roles:
Member
Viewer
Commenter
Customer
Customer Approver
Account Manager
Reporter
Product Delivery Manager
Scrum Master
We do not seem to have Users, but maybe they are called Members in our setup?
We are using JSD and JSM, so we do have the Service Desk Team and Service Desk Customer roles as well, but since this is obvious, I did not mention them.
It would be great if you could maybe indicate how many default roles Jira Software and JSM come with in total. That would already help a lot.
Thanks so much,
Susanne

You could potentially remove all project roles, at least on Cloud. It has been a while since I used the server version so I cannot tell you the default roles there. But I do know that the ones you have listed are not the default ones.
