Why I'm not seeing issues completed outside the sprint on my sprint report?

Mohammad Uzair March 17, 2019

We completed the sprint but when open the sprint report we are not seeing the task that get completed outside the sprint. There are many tasks that were marked as Done when the sprint was running.

Prompt reply will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Mohammad,

and welcome to the Atlassian community :) So what did you do with all unfinished (=unresolved) issues when you closed the sprint? Don't you see the issue in the report or are you confused because you see it but it's not finished?

There are different ways to treat unfinished issues (copied from the documentation):

  • Backlog, to move the issues to the backlog.
  • Any future sprint, to move the issues to any future sprint that's already created.
  • New sprint, to create a new sprint and then move the issues to the new sprint.

And you do see the issues in your sprint report, correct? But mentioned under the section "Issues not completed" as you didn't finish it within the sprint and the report shows you a snapshot if the status quo when you closed the sprint.

The issues that not get completed in a sprint are moved to next sprint (which is sprint 3 in my case).

Now when I go to the sprint report and select sprint 2 (which i closed). I only see issues completed in a sprint and Issues not completed in a sprint. I wonder why i'm not seeing the issues that get completed outside the sprint 2.

"Hi,

I'm not sure if I understand what you are expecting right now. What is "issues that get completed outside the sprint 2" supposed to mean? In your sprint report you see issues that belonged to sprint 2.

  • You haven't finished an issue, let's call it KEY-123, in Sprint 2
  • After closing the Sprint 2 KEY-123 will be listed under "Issues not completed" with the status it was in when you closed the sprint
  • You move the unfinished sprints to Sprint 3
  • Every issue in Sprint 3 will be listed in the Sprint 3 sprint report
  • The Sprint 2 sprint report will not display/consider any changes to statuses after the sprint has been closed.

Thanks for some clarification here to further assist you.

Best, Max

Let say, my Sprint 2 starts on 04 March and ends on 15 March. In between when sprint 2 was running, I completed an issue on 13 March  which is not in sprint 2, lets call it KEY-123.

Now when i open the sprint 2 report where should KEY-123 should appear?

As the issue doesn't belong to Sprint 2, why should it appear in a sprint report for that Sprint? :) It will not appear in any Sprint report because of the lack of a sprint relation. You will have to use other features of Jira to report on issues outside of your sprints. Maybe you should work with some saved filters and gadgets on a dashboard for example.

It does make perfect sense to me.

But when i go to my sprint 1 report I see some issues that are labeled with "Issues completed outside of this sprint".

Can you explain that as well please?

Okay, I have to honestly say that I never came across this and have to look into it. You made me curious, maybe in the meantime someone else answers you question :) anything "special" you did with that issue? oh just resolved it in that project during the sprint 2 but from the backlog or something else? I'll take a look at it tomorrow night in a cloud instance.

Hi @Mohammad Uzair

short research within existing community questions got some possible answers for the behavior, a few options seem to explain it. Haven't tested them yet.

  • Issues matching the board filter moved to the far right column but were not part of the sprint.
  • Issues in the sprint have been resolved before the sprint started.
  • Issues in the sprint have been resolved after the sprint ended.

Best, Max
