Hi @Krishantha welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Are you working in a company-managed or team-managed project? (you can check this on the bottom of your sidebar)
Do you know if there are any workflow validators on the parent task that prevent you from creating a child issue?
Is the child issue a sub-task of an issue or a linked issue with link type parent/child?
Hi,
Company managed team. There are no workflow validators that prevent me from creating a child issue.
We experience this globally - across all types of workflows for projects, when adding as child issue and not linking. Evene in an instance when we try and create a very new story/subtask that is the child of an Epic, same issue.

Looking at your screenshot, it seems to me that 'Task progress' is a custom field made required by the Field Configuration linked to that issue type. Can you check this?

This fixed it! Thank you!
We made it "optional" instead of "required"

Hi @Krishantha , Would it be possible to see a screenshot of this? Do you happen to have any add-ons that might be involved here? On the surface, this does not look like a native Jira behavior.

Thanks @Krishantha . Please check your workflow for a validator on the create link of type shown below. I suspect this may be the reason you're seeing that error.

@Krishantha , I believe Dave's answer is colander not mine? Assuming so please unselect mine as accepted. I just want to ensure the correct answer is accepted.
