Why am I receiving the "JIRA Server was contacted but has returned error, unsure of result of operation" when sharing an issue?

I'm receiving the "JIRA Server was contacted but has returned error, unsure of result of operation" whenever I attempt to share an issue and I type the letter "L" into the "User Name or Email" field as the first letter. I can search for any other letter without an issue and if I use an "L" in the middle of the name, I don't get an error. What would be causing this error?

Sounds like there could be a corrupted user account, one that begins with an L
