Why are aui-icon/s missing in export to PDF?

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I am using aui-icon/s (locked, unlocked, edit). They are properly displayed in the browser but are not showing up in the PDF when exported. I expect that it is because the imported Atlassian css classes/icons and/or the :before pseudo class are not accessible in the export.
Are there any known solutions?
