Why aren't my Stories automatically showing up under my Epics?

I have imported or created a few Epics and created linked jiras. However as I create Stories under these main Epic jiras, they are not appearing on my Backlog board. Why is that?

As a first step. Can you check that the story has the link in the "Epic Link" field not using the normal link functionality.

The simplest way to link is to drag and drop any issue from the main view on to the appropriate Epic to link.
