In my next-gen roadmap project, I have added a 'Task' as an issue type, however, when I create a card with this issue type and try to add it to my board, it won't add it - remains in the backlog.
The same thing occurs for me for any cards I create that have custom issue types.
After playing around, my problem is solved.
Turn off the sprint feature and return to your project, then turn it back on.
This reintroduced the 'Sprint' by JIRA field for issue types so it can be selected as a primary field on each issue type.
Now my items stay in sprint when they have been assigned to one.
@Amna Haque, check your board filter under Board settings > General to ensure it is not filtering out the desired issue types. Feel free to copy your filter her so I can review if desired.

Hey Jack, I can't get to board settings on this next gen project. When I click the ellipsis at the top right of the board, it only gives me two options: Manage Rules, Hide cover images.
No filters are set either, on the board or backlog view.
Anytime i change an issue type on an issue to Task or a custom one, the issue won't stay attached to a sprint, falls back to the backlog.

when the issue falls back to the backlog, whether the system has any tips?

I think this has to do with a field you can add to issue types. There is no field called Sprint by JIRA that I can move over to my issue types.
Could this be due to the project maybe being created as a kanban template in the beginning? (I didn't create this myself, I just assumed the person creating it selected Scrum template)

@Amna Haque, sorry I missed that this was an NG project. I’m not where I can look at this at the moment but will check in tomorrow and see if I can help.

Thanks Jack - I'll continue to have a play but i'm now convinced its due to the 'Sprint' by JIRA field missing against my issue types. There is no way I can add it as it is not present on the panel on the right to select on any of my issue types. Hope this extra info helps

I'm having this exact same problem. I can only add "bug" and "story".
