Why can't I change epic colours on the roadmap?

All my epics on the roadmap are the same colour however when I click into each epic, you can see that each epic has their own colour. How can I display my epics in different colours on the roadmap? I'm on the free plan if that makes a difference.

You can update an epic color from the roadmap by right-clicking on the epic bar:
