Why do HTML tags show in my descriptions?

I'm getting HTML tags in my descriptions. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? The description textbox for the field is just a plain text editor.

Indeed, we have identified this behavior in Jira cloud and reported a bug with our development team in order to get it fixed:

- Certain field descriptions are rendered between HTML paragraph tags
