Why do some epic links show up on Kanban backlog and some don't?

Why do some epic links show up on Kanban backlog and some don't?

I have stories in our Kanban backlog. Those stories are part of different epics. Some of those stories have the epic link label displaying on the right side and some do not. What triggers the display of that information? I'd like to get them all to show.
