What I understand from this article is that Classic projects are for complex projects with multiple teams and customized workflows where as the classic projects are for simple projects which do not require a lot of customization yet the Roadmaps feature is not available for classic projects.
And now JIRA launched its premium version here which gives users the ability to manage dependencies and forecast projects better. I am just really surprised that this is again available only with Roadmaps which again is only available for the next gen projects. I am surprised because the complex/classic projects are the ones who would need these features of dependency management and forecasting more than simple/next gen projects.
I am desperate for the features that JIRA premium offers but I am not willing to change to next gen because I lose the control I have over workflows and custom fields.
Hi Nischal,
Roadmap is exclusive for next-gen projects and currently, there are no plans to add this feature for classic ones.
We have a feature request suggesting the implementation for classic projects:
For classic projects, there are Portfolio for Jira which includes a more completed and complex roadmap:

Angélica
