I created a workflow that I have been using and modifying for a few weeks now. I have some transitions in the workflow that assign particular users to a ticket based upon the status or transition. I need to change one of the assignees but now suddenly the workflow is 'managed by JIRA' and I can't edit anything.
How can I remove this condition? And more importantly - why / how did this 'happen'?
To expand on @Taha Khanzada's answer, someone in your JIRA installation has permissions to press this button on an Agile board –

You can read more about this button here: Using JIRA Agile Simplified Workflow.
(ps You can tell he wasn't using the Simplified Agile Workflow before because he mentions that he has '...transitions in the workflow that assign particular users to a ticket based upon the [...] transition,' an impossible [or rather, unsupported] function when using the simplified workflow.)
Hi,
Previously you might be using JIRA Agile Simplified Workflow and now may be your JIRA Admin has changed the workflow from Simplified Workflow to JIRA Workflow.
Simplified Workflow Can be edited from within JIRA Agile provided you have Project Admin permission.
You might check below document to understand what I am talking here
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AGILE/Using+JIRA+Agile+Simplified+Workflow
PS. You can ask JIRA Admin you switch back your workflow to Simplified workflow unless they are not happy to do it then you can ask JIRA Admin for any modification.
Taha
