Will Jira populate a fresh database with the appropriate schema(s) and tables?

Andrew Howey September 3, 2021

After trying to upgrade my existing Jira in place from 8.15.0 to 8.19.0, I've decided to sandbox this in a non-production environment.  Once the database is created and Jira is installed, will Jira create everything it needs in the database?  I'm inheriting this project from people who left the company before I started, so I don't know what they did for initial set-up.

Hi @Andrew Howey

Yes absolutely. Once you connect Jira with the new database, it will take care of the tables.

Take a backup of your current instance, if not big instance then xml backup should be fine, and restore it on your sandbox. It will also restore the data and configurations for you.

Exact details are in this document: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/upgrading-jira-applications-938846936.html
