Work Items (Issues) Removed from Kanban Board when added to a sprint board

We have a kanban board with work items (issues) and a team is experimenting with going to scrum within the same project. How can I have work items be visible on both the kanban columns and within the sprints? I created a sprint and moved current work items on the kanban board into the sprint and they disappeared on the Kanban board.

How?  I have a Kanban because there are a lot of overarching unrelated tasks that need to be tracked and completed, but then I do have streams of work within the project that can be set up in sprints.  so I am want to have both options available and viewable.
