hi,

I've just exported my workflows from JIRA 4.4.1 in an XML file. I now want to import them into JIRA 5.0.

Since most of my workflows use accented (Spanish) characters, I get the following error message when trying to import:

Error parsing workflow XML: Invalid byte 2 of 4-byte UTF-8 sequence. (line:432 col:38). Please see log for more details.

Looking at this line, I see the following:

<action id="211" name="pasar a producción" view="fieldscreen">

When I change the "ó" into a non accented "o" then the XML is imported fine (until the next accented character).
I have issue statuses in these workflows that also use accented characters.
How do I solve this? And isn't this something JIRA (in its export and/or import) should take care of?
thanks for helping,
Jacques.

Hi Jacques,

By some chance, could you check the following information?

  1. Ensure workflow xml contain UTF=8.
  2. Try to input -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 properties in your JIRA 4.4.1 and 5. Please see Setting Properties and Options on Startup.
  3. Ensure your database support UTF 8 encoding.

Hope it helps.

Does anyone have an idea if this is only me, or if this is general. Is Atlassian aware of this issue?

thanks!
