Workflow screens allow for the fields in them (such as Resolution) to be filled during the transition. Use them if you need specific fields filled in for the transition.
And if you want specific actions such as a field to be completed then you can use a post function associated with the transition. As Robert conveyed screens are used to accommodate a manual action whereas post functions provide an automatic action.
