I am importing test cases from a CSV file. I have test cases where there is more than one tester so have indicated the testers jira ID alongside each test step. in a column for tester and have mapped this column to the tester field in jira. Once the import completes, the tester is defaulting to the person who is the owner of the test but I only receive notification that the test case imported successfully.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

For this to work you need to use the Jira Account ID (or UUID).  It will be a looong hexadecimal value.  You can find it in the URL by clicking on a user in Jira Settings → User management → People.  Or another way is to find an Issue assigned/reported by that user and export to XML.  You might know of an even easier way to find the ID (let me know 😉)
