add issues to existing project from csv file

Pretty much says it all in the subject. We have an existing project that we want top bulk add issues to from a CSV file. Can I use the JIRA Importer Plugin? Or is that only for new projects. The documentation is unclear on that point.

The documentation says that you can import either in new or existing project(s). Anyway the easiest way is to try it out on a sample test project.
