A lot of JIRA assumes that you're not interested in resolved issues, and hence defaults to ignoring them unless you actively choose to look for them. Make sure you set a resolution when closing issues and you'll find you don't see much of them.
There are ways you could completely hide them, but then a lot of your statistics won't work.
When I close a ticket I do not want to see those closed tickets. Thanks!
