hello community.
i have a team who needs to automate the creating of stories / subtasks when creating an epic.
this however, will not be for all the epics they create. is it possible to create a "rule" for this in Jira?
im not terribly technical, so i would appreciate a little hand holding though this one.
Hi @Nicky Ilsley , thanks for your question.
I would want to clarify first if you are using Jira in the cloud or in a self-hosted, server or data center instance.
If you are in the cloud, Atlassian has created and made available a library of templates for automation rules. There is a simple one here, which you could use to get you started -
Automation Playground | Atlassian
As I said, this is a simple rule, in the sense that it only has a trigger (what calls it) and then actions (what the automation does). You can also introduce, as you have mentioned in your use case, conditions. Conditions are used to limit or specify when the trigger to carry out the actions.
So, in your case, the automation rule, in the cloud, might look something like this -
It is also possibile to automate the creation of sub-tasks in Jira server, but it is a different process.
Please can you give us your feedback about whether this solution would meet your needs or not?
Cheers
