how to filter selectable fields whilst in a project

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to filter available options so that only used fields in a project are selectable in a report. Trying to remember which specific field is applicable to a particular project is a bit clunky.

This is also applicable in other selection drop downs.

(I appreciate this is potentially a consequence of having many independent teams all using Atlassian within our company in their own way)

Hi @Chris Rollins,

Unfortunately not. Dashboards (and available gadgets) are designed to be used agnostic of projects. Many gadgets can be based on saved filters that span multiple projects and - as such - offer the flexibility to use most fields available in your instance.

As it seems from your screenshot, several teams/projects use similar fields. That may be because your organisation uses team managed projects or simply multiple fields with the same name have been created. In such scenarios, it is best practice to reuse the same field for different projects (i.e. in company managed projects) and use the custom field context to specify different options for different projects and/or issue types. That may help reduce the number of custom fields in your instance and make reporting options clearer as well.

As it stands, designing your dashboard(s) will require you to take a close look at the project(s) you want to report on to identify the exact fields you need.

Hope this helps!
