how to import "issue status" from excel into jira?

I know how to import my issues from excel to jira, but my question is, how do I also upload the status (workflow) into Jira? I have a mix of issues (in excel) that are open and also closed.

How do I tell jira to create my issues but then close them as well?

Map the status column in your CSV (excel) to the status you want the issues to take on in your workflow.

excel                                     Jira

my_status -----------------> ? (not sure what this field is called)

It should be offering you "status", unless you've already mapped it!

after doing some reading, it looks like "status" is not available via the import method for a non admin.  These were old postings on jira community, but I was hoping jira would have added it by now.
