Hello, community members.

How does an individual customer/user submit a defect to Atlassian for Jira?

It appears that defects (bug issuetype) can no longer be directly entered into the Atlassian backlog projects by a registered and logged in user; only "suggestions" can be added.  Trying the support / contact page leads one in a loop that either ends with "ask a question to the community" or back to the starting point of the contact page.

Thanks in advance for any relevant replies!

Hey Bill,

If uses are on the free plan, it will indeed lead them back to us here in the Community. Usually as Community Leaders we will try to ping one of our Atlassian contacts to get help with defects and/or bugs after we try to duplicate it.

The problem comes in if we can't duplicate on our instances because we can't submit the defect/bug if we can't duplicate on our sites.

My route, personally, is always to submit a Support Request. But you have to be a Jira Administrator for a paid site to be able to do that. I have wondered myself how free plans can get help with actual defects/bugs, etc that prevent them from functioning and they can't get direct support.

I will raise that in the Community Leader area. Thanks for asking about that!!

Thanks, John.  We are on a standard, paid cloud license.  It seems only our admin can see the fields to enter a defect on the support page... which matches your explanation.

And I understand the no-repro situations... Just a bit frustrating to not be able to submit a defect for a thing which several team members see and reproduce.

I'll have our admin look into the reasoning why non-admins for paid licenses cannot submit issues.

Best regards,

Bill

I just submit them here:

https://support.atlassian.com/contact/#/

I do not enter them directly into the Backlog.

Yup, that is the location I used to enter defects when I was an instance admin.  As a non-admin, that path prompts for some info and once you enter your instance URL it takes you to two choices: enter a community posting or search the documentation.

Thanks, again!

:-(

You should get back to being an admin  ;-)
