how to upgrade from Jira 4.4.5 to 7.x?

are there any complications according to the upgrade? can I follow the steps given in the documentation? only want to install Jira software.

I'd recommend upgrading to 5.2, then 6.4 then 7.x, and reading the upgrade notes for each one in turn.

You can not ugrade directly from 4.4.5 to 7.x. 

You will have to go with intermediate upgrades. You would come to know which version to which version by going through all major release notes.

can I simply save important data and schemes and so on, and install Jira 7.x from scratch, importing my data afterwords?
