what is the workflow for the JIRA initiative issue type

Welcome to Community :) 

If you have added the issue type to the project and this project has only one workflow for all its issue types then the same will be followed to the initiative workflow.

Incase you want to associate this issue type to another workflow or screens you can do via : https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB/How+to+Associate+a+Single+Issue+Type+with+a+different+screen+scheme+and+Workflow+Scheme+in+a+project
