jira plan doesn't show capacity in old sprints - "Capacity View"

Ricardo Cortes Romo May 20, 2025

I'm working on Jira plans. I created a plan for my team, and the Capacity view doesn't show the capacity when a sprint is completed. Why? Is that the intention, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi @Ricardo Cortes Romo,

I do think that this is expected behaviour. Plans is a forward looking planning tool. Capacity is relevant when looking ahead at what you can schedule in the future. Completed sprints are done and capacity does not matter anymore there since you cannot travel back in time to change what has happened.

Plans is not intended as a backward looking reporting tool. It focuses on the remaining work and tries to help you make informed decisions about what you / your team still needs to deliver.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Ricardo Cortes Romo

If you would like to try a mktplace app for tracking resource workload and capacity planning, even for old sprints, take a look at

Capacity Planner

The app offers:

1. Resource Tracking and Allocation : The app allows you to monitor and track various resources by adding them as part of a template, and their work allocation across multiple projects / sprints.

2. Real-time Visualization: Provides intuitive charts, graphs to visualize resource utilization and capacity levels in real-time.

3. Full Sprint / Project Fix version Capacity and Monitoring
