manipulate custom fields using java script from the default screen

in Jira server, I have 2 custom fields available in the 'Edit' screen.

to the first one I added some javascript to disable\ enable the 2nd field and update the value per change in the 1st field (using javascript in the 1st description field: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-display-a-field-based-on-another-field-s-selection-649921383.html)

can I do the same in the default screen?

as once the fields are displayed in the default screen, changing the 1st field value doesn't impact the 2nd one as in the Edit screen.
