multi node Data Centre reindexing

Hi all, I've read through the documentation and not sure I found exactly what I was after so asking here is the next step!

Our current configuration is Data Centre on 2 nodes in AWS. 

1) We plan on doing a full-reindex out of critical hours when downtime isn't a concern, so we won't be removing nodes from the load balancer.

Q. Once the full re-index is done on 1 node, will the index automatically copy to the 2nd node or does that only happen when a node is re-added to a load balancer? or are we best to use the 'Copy the Search Index from another node' option during our organised outage window. 

2) We are planning for future regular reindexing, hopefully automated and with no downtime. We have a 3rd node that spins up and joins the cluster every Wednesday then back down to 2 during the night, this is scripted/automated. The current idea is to have that 3rd node get a fresh index before joining the cluster, then when joining it copies that index to the 2 existing nodes.

Q.  When a new node is created, does that node get a fresh index from the db or would it copy it from an existing node?

   - Is the idea possible?
   - Anyone configured anything similar?

Hi @Craig McCall ,

1. Indexes should be aligned through nodes independently if a node is or not on the load balancer. You can use copy index from a specific node if you need to force that operation
2. When a new node is added to the cluster, indexes will be automatically synched with the current indexes from other nodes in the cluster.So if you start a 3rd node and then execute a full reindexing these indexes will be automatically transferred to other two nodes in your cluster
