How to export JIRA search result to .xlsx file ?

Export to excel option generating .xls file. How can I export it  to .xlsx file instead.

That is not possible with out-of-the-box Jira, and the suggestion to add the feature has been open for several years: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-62196

There appear to be several marketplace addons available for purchase to do this:
