I have just reinstalled Jira server as we started an install and then never finished it.
The install has worked on a trial licence but I am unable to add in the following licences.
1) perpetual Jira service Desk licence
2) Insight -Assett Management Licence
3) Kanoah CRM
4) Confluence
I assume that these licenses are tied to a Server ID - but I am unable to find anywhere that I can tie these licences to my newly installed server on
BV5L-XQXR-DGU1-BEE9
Also I am unable to past my licence key for the server into Jira as the message i recieve is
"We're unable to confirm that Jira Licence" - is that a me problem or a you problem ?
How can i move everything to the new server ID, there is no backup of the old server as it was never used.
I assume that the server ID needs to tie into these licences but after going through all of the settings in my Altassian - as the primary tech contact that also purchased this I would appreciate a little guidance.
Thanks in advance for what I hope is a favourable response
Hi Lee,
I assume that these licenses are tied to a Server ID
The Server ID is only needed for the very first time you purchase the license in order to generate that license key for the first time. Once you do that for product like Jira, you can then use that license key on any new Jira installation, regardless of the server id of that new install. That said the license is only supposed to be installed to one application at a time per the terms of the license agreement.
So if your old server has been decommissioned and you don't have a backup to restore the old XML backup (which would contain your license info in the database), then you can just go into https://my.atlassian.com login as the billing or technical account listed for those licenses and obtain the license keys that way. They don't need to match the old server id, but that is a common misconception about licensing in Atlassian products.
Since it sounds like you're doing a fresh installation of Jira and Confluence, in the setup wizard for each of these you will be prompted to enter you license key. You can simply copy the keys you find in your https://my.atlassian.com account for those specific products and apply them here.
For your account, I found 2 different Jira service desk license keys here. One of these has expired. For the expired key, you won't be able to use this on an installation of Jira that was released after the expiration date. That expiration date was 19-Jan-2019. This means that you could continue to use a Service Desk 3.1.6.0 with that license key, but you could not upgrade or install a 3.16.1 or high version since these were released after the maintenance has expired for this license. These dates can be determined from the release notes as well.
If you are installing the latest version of Service Desk 4.1, then you will need to use the newer license key that has not expired yet. I found that key starts with the string 'AAABbg' and ends with the string 'X02ht'.
I hope this helps.
Andy
Thanks Andy, I actually got fed up with getting the licence key expired messages and just ended up buying new licences. I really appreciate your feedback and comments as it actually explains where i was going wrong.
Thanks for awesomness!
