s it just subtask that do that? I'm trying to reconcile some tasks into stories/epics but the related tickets are either tasks or stories, so that is why it's not showing up that correct? Really rather not go through and change tasks to sub-tasks but I really like when the parent is listed above the ticket for ease of viewing

Yes, only sub-tasks have a 'parent'. Tasks may have an associated Epic, and are nicely grouped under the Epic in Agile boards.

In theory, you could use linked issues to show tasks related to stories.

However, this will be a sibling relationship rather than a parent / child relationship. When it comes to sub-tasks > parent tasks, it is only this relationship which utilises Parent ID.

For more mature Parent / Child relationships you'd need an add-on, such as Jira Portfolio
