hi,
i'm trying to find a way to set a default date for the "start date" field only on epic type issues.
i couldn't find any way to do it, and the epic start date is always today.
i can't use transition triggers to do that because the epic is created as new and if the date is today it's considered in a report that shows the scope of work, while i want to put the date sometime in the future so it will not be considered now.
as i can't relay on the person who opens the epic to change the date (sometimes it works, sometimes they forget) i need a better way to set this value be default.
Hello Eli,
Unfortunately, the Start Date field is locked and you can not set a default value for it, however, there is another option:
You can configure a separated workflow to your Epic issues where you would add the post function Updade issue Custom Field to automatically update the field with the date you want, once it is created.
Here are the steps:
- Navigate to your Project settings > Workflows > Add a separated workflow to your Epic Issues (If you want, you can simply copy the existing one)
- Click to edit the new workflow of your Epic issues
- Click on the Create transition (Diagram view) > Post Functions
- Add the Post Function Update issue Custom Field > Configure the Start date field with the value you want
Please, let me know if it works for you.
For more details about it, please check the documentation below:
You are welcome, Eli.
Have a nice week.
