setting up a 'new' Issue Template

Ben Mawson-Mole July 14, 2020

Hi everyone

Hoping someone can help signpost me to some hints n tips on how to set up a 'new' Jira Issue Template?

I'm working with a team, who use Jira to log dev work.  They've shown me the standard template they use, which has a couple of custom fields added (it has a drop down list to help categories the Dev work, which helps feed into the dashboard).

As a Jira User, it looks like I don't have access to some option, and one of them is the ability to set ups and maintain templates.

Can anyone signpost me to the Atlassian user guides for Jira Issue Templates?

Are you using app/addin "Issue Templates for Jira"? Or some other Add in for Templates? Jira doesn't have templating out of the box.

Some places use issue cloning as a template mechanism. They make a few issues that are defined as the "Templates", and then user clone those issues to make the new ones based on them. Its a rudimentary way of doing it and doesn't work for all things, but it can be an option if done right.

@Ben Mawson-Mole

Do you mean a pre-populated fields with some static information?

Best,

Fadoua

Hi Fadoua,

Sorry, no, its to set up a blank template with a few custom named fields that the team would use, and only that team.

The team I'm working with are a 1st line of support team and need to categorise the enquiry type so it can be assigned to the right person to resolve and also feed into the dashboard.

They've shown me their current template which has these fields on it, though no-one can remember who did it, or which internal Jira Support team would have done it.

It's this I'm looking to replicate in a new set of template, and also document how we do it for future use....

Hope this helps
