I have a story that is "In Progress," it was correctly shown in the "In Progress" column of my Scrum board.
Then somebody on the team created a subtask on the story, and now the story is shown in the "Ready" column.
Can anybody explain this bizarre behaviour?
It is "In Progress."
JIRA seems to think that if you have subtasks, then your story stays at the far left end of the board until all subtasks reach the far right. The problem with this, of course, is that the workflow of a task is not the same as that of a story.
JIRA seems to make no distinction between a story and a task, other than to label them. Showing its origins as an issue management tool rather than an agile workflow tool, I guess.
Check the issue status in the plain full JIRA view of the issue - what does that say and what column does that status live in on your board?
