We added a new People field to our ticket. I'd like to now pull that field into the Group By section of the board view so that i can further filter on the field by actual person from there. how in the admin section to i add that field as an option? see image attached
Currently in Group By: i can see Assignee, Epic or Subtask or None.
do i do it by "Associating to Screens"? thanks

You do not (yet). That list is currently hard-coded to Assignee, Epic and Sub-task, you can't add to it.
Is it hard-coded only for Nex gen projects or for Classic projects as well?

Classic projects don't have group-by, they have swimlanes, but it is similar - a swimlane groups issues together based on something, and assignee, epic, story and project are hard-coded options.
You also get "queries" though - you can build your own swimlanes with JQL and be very clever with it - I've seen boards that do things like swimlane 1 = things the boss has flagged, lane 2 = high priority, lane 3 = component x on issue, lane 4 = component y, lane 5 = assigned to dave.
