Hey there, today we noticed 3 of our epics have disappeared from our projects. The only thing I know we were changing today were Atlassian user groups and user access. Would user permissions cause an epic to be deleted or removed from view or did someone straight up delete them? I'm assuming there is no audit log for deleted epics/issues, right?
Thanks!
Changing users (even removing them) - no. And changing users and permissions will not affect data on the issues, certainly not deleting anything.
But user access changes could effectively hide them. If you remove the permission for a user to see the project an Epic is in, or amend the security levels to exclude them, it will vanish from everywhere, as far as that user can see.
I would take one of the missing epics and simply try to visit its plain view. Type the key into the search at the top right. If it's not there for you, then check the permission scheme and security scheme allow you to see it. If they do, then has either been deleted or been moved to a project you cannot see.
Also check the audit log - that may have trapped issue deletions.
Thanks! I just realized these epics all lived in a certain project that had a different permissions scheme than the others. This permissions scheme had many permissions settings specific to a user group that I had since deleted and replaced with another. In order to solve I had to either a. swap the permissions scheme to match the other projects or b. give the newly created user group permissions in the old scheme. Once I did that everyone that needed to was able to view the epics again.
