Hello! I work as a marketer for a product listed on the Atlassian Marketplace. Today, I noticed that its position in the search results has significantly dropped. Has anyone else encountered this issue and knows how to cope with it?
Hi @Natalia_Kovalchuk_SaaSJet_ ,
Some weeks (maybe months) ago, Atlassian switched the search engine used the marketplace. The most visible change should be the search suggestions when you type in a keyword, but I would not be surprised if the ranking parameters also changed.
Without having checked this recently: I believe you can still use the marketplace API to compare the old search rankings with the new one in the UI.
As for what goes into a ranking – I really cannot say. Atlassian has an article on this here: https://developer.atlassian.com/platform/marketplace/marketplace-search-results-and-rankings/ However, I'm unsure if the information in there already reflects recent changes.
Hope that helps at least a bit,
Oliver
Hi,
How can you see the ranking in the marketplace? Is there a tool for that?
Sorry, I am new here and I don't know how everything works yet...
Hi @Clara Davis ,
There's no page on the marketplace that shows actual rankings. What we are talking about here is the order in which apps are listed when you search for any terms.
Say you are looking for an app that helps you deal with sensitive data. You might type 'PII' into the search box, hit enter and you'll be presented with a bunch of results, like this: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=pii
Now, as the vendor of an app in that space, we want our app to be very far app in that result set, ie have a good ranking.
Now, if I want to know how our apps rank for various keywords, I'd have to search each and every term and then count where our apps appear. There isn't any tool for this (unfortunately), at least not one that I know of.
Of course, one could likely vibe-code something using Rovo or other tools. But before scraping a website (what this would likely qualify as), you should check their terms or use.
Best regards,
Oliver
