How can I enter a long username for the Subversion ALM repo browser?

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
The browser login (found by going to the tab at the top of the screen) seems to be very limited when it comes to entering my username. In fact, it's too small for pretty much the entire team since they are using email addresses as usernames. Please see the attached screenshot. The length of the username cannot be longer than the length of the input field.
Please note that the actual plugin configuration (Jira Admin -> add-ons) does support longer usernames.
So how can we use longer usernames for the browser?
