How can I import an mpp file and have it respect the WBS and the fields in MS Project?

I seem to import an mpp file I just saved, and it doesn't reflect the wbs of the project tasks, or populate some of the important fields. I am very, very new to Jira and BigPicture so I apologize if this is an easy one.
