How to call third party javascript function included in a third party .js file --- From a Gadget

I am writing a sample gadget which includes a .js third party file. After getting the user preferences from this new sample gadget , I want to call a java script function which is present inside the .js file.

How do I invoke it from the sample-gadget .xml ? Which section do I write the code, I want to first capture user prefernence then based on the input call this function present inside the .js file
