How to only sort the first level of a Structure (plugin) and keep the Ranking for subs?

Adrien Gaudon February 5, 2018

Hello I have a structure with 5 levels :

  1. Project
  2. Phase
  3. Epic
  4. Story
  5. Sub-task

Here's the synchronizer that I use for everything under the Epics :

  • Agile (Produits)
  • Source of Truth: JIRA
  • Epics synchronized
  • Sub-task position forced
  • Rank field: Rank
  • Consecutive ranking

For Epic, Story and Sub-tasks I want to keep the ranking by this synchronizer, but I want my project to be sorted by name (Summary).

If I use the transformation Sort by Summary, EVERYTHING will be sorted by Summary, overriding my synchronizer's ranking.

Does anyone have an idea? That would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance !

My environment:

  • JIRA Server 7.1
  • Structure v. 4.1.1
  • ScriptRunner v. 5.1.6

Hi Adrien,

There is no bulletproof solution currently to this.

You can actually set level for your transformation. For this, when transformation is created, press the triangular button ⏷ within it and select Edit. In the opened dialog, select Current level under Sort Levels. This will sort only the top level issues/items.

Note, that this will not affect consecutive ranking as synchronizers do not notice the transformations and act as if the structure is not sorted. So changes to ranking can be unpredictable.

You can use generators (Automation) instead of synchronizers to build your structure, and set sorting by summary at top level and sorting by rank at levels 2-5. However, generators do not have consecutive ranking and all levels will be ranked independently.

Please, let me know if the above suggestions are useful.
