Questions RE: Content Formatting Macros

So I just discovered that we have some version of the Content Formatting macros bundle installed in our Confluence. When trying to work with these macros, however, I'm running into some inconsistencies, and so I wanted to find out how they are actually supposed to work. Here are my questions, so far:

1. Can <div> and <span> macros be used to surround other macros (for example, Section and Columns macros)?
2. How can I use <div>, <span>, and <style> macros to affect tables? I would love some examples, but am having trouble finding any.
3.  How can I specify a class for items not in <div> or <span>?
4. Can <style> macros style <div> and <span> contents instead of putting the styles in the <div> and <span> macros themselves?
5. My <div> tags do not seem to format horizontal rules or borders on block elements like paragraphs. Is this a known issue?
6. Our plug-ins do not seem to look like they do in your website documentation. How can I tell what version we are using?
