"Discussion list" macro didn't provide an option to show a create discussion button like "Confluence Questions" did in its "Questions list".
That's no problem, since we can build the button with "Create from template" macro:
discussion-list.png
But I found I can't populate labels in the create page dialog:
create-discussion.png
So my question is: can we enhance "Set Discussion parameters" dialog to enable populate labels?
p.s. if you can provide the "create a discussion" option in the "Discussion list" macro, and let it pre-polulate these labels in the opening "Set Discussion parameters" dialog, that's great!
Expecting your response.
Thanks!
Hey Minglei,
This is weird. I reproduced your scenario and things works on our Demo. The discussion is retrieved by the discussion list macro.
After creating a discussion, the label "discussion-blueprint" is automatically added. Based on this label the discussion list macro get all the discussion and display them in a list. So even if you don't repopulate your discussion with labels normally discussions must be retrieved.
I'm suspecting an indexation issue. Previously some of our user had this issue and by just reindexing Confluence the macro re-started collecting all the discussions created.
Can I have a screenshot of the page created from the macro "create from template" ?
Thanks
Hi Melek, that's not the point. I mean the labels that the "discussion list" used to filter. Say, I embeded a "discussion list", I want it to help filter out discussions with label "topic1". Then I expect the discussions created from the "Create from template" button were pre-populated labels "discussion-blueprint" and "topic1".

Hi Minglei, Sorry, looks I misunderstood you! As I said in a previous comment the feature you are requesting is under study and will probably land in the next release of Discussion plugin :) You will have the possibility to set labels when creating a discussion and then you can display those labels and filter within the listing macro.

Hi minglei tu,
Thanks for the interest shown to our plugin.
To reply to your question: actually you can't modify the "Set discussion parameters" panel without changing the plugin sources (which mean without a specific intervention from our side)
When creating the plugin and specifying it's features, we made the choice of not having a populate labels option the make the creation easy and rapid. Some of our users requested having topics or labels during the creation and we are currently studying the possibility of adding topics to discussion or question when creating it. After that you can filter content and have information based on those topics.
Still if for your use case you require to have labels please consider having a look on our Ideation Blueprint. This blueprint is about ideas creation where ideas can be questions, simple content ... the creation panel content labels field.
Thanks for your understanding.

Well, I can't understand your choice. But I revised the question and implemented one more screenshot, which displayed what I want to do. As you see, I want to use the "Discussion" plugin to organize a series of related discussions. So I want participants can create a discussion directly from discussion list page. Is this not an expected use case for you?

Hi Minglei, I'm a little bit confused about what you are requesting. As I can see from the screenshot it's possible to have a "creation button" with the create from template macro. You can use this macro anywhere within you page where the "discussion list" macro is injected. That's why we don't include this feature (creation button) within our macro. From the moment Confluence offers the feature and to let our users free to have it or not via the create from template macro we didn't added this option. Does that represent an issue for you? or are you wondering an other behavior? Thanks

As you see, I added a "create a discussion" button aside the "discussion list". So I expect the discussion pages created from the button can be collected by the "discussion list" automatically. But I found they won't, since I can't pre-populate the labels and users can't populate them in the creating dialog. Yes, they can add the labels later, but I'm afraid they won't always remember that.
