Confluence to Jira macro problem with Gaia plugin

Mark Thomas May 4, 2018

When reviewing pages created by Gaia in a Confluence Space I get the following message for linked JIRA issues:
"Error rendering macro 'jira': Unable to locate Jira server for this macro. It may be due to Application Link configuration."
Also:
"Unable to locate JIRA server for this macro. It may be due to Application Link configuration."

However, when I edit the document, again in the Confluence Space, I can see the corresponding issue and no error message is seen while in the edit mode. All of these links magically appear, although clicking 'View in JIRA' is unresponsive.

The links list summary located by the 'bread crumbs' always displays correctly and links correctly to the JIRA issues referenced, which has me doubting that there are issues in the link configuration since it works in this case.

If I attempt to edit the link, the dialogue has an additional error:

"No server found match with your URL.Click here to set this up", which takes me to the Application Links Configuration page. I cannot make any meaningful edits in either this dialogue or the Applications Links page to fix the issue.

The strange thing is that if I create a NEW JIRA issue in the same location in the confluence page using the exact same search query, it makes a link that always displays correctly and correctly sends me to the issue.

So there seems to be some strange issue in how the link is created by Gaia that cannot be fixed after creating pages through the templates.

Confluence is 6.8.2 (default setup configurations) at http://localhost:8090
JIRA Software is 7.9.1 (set up to use local instance of MySQL 5.7.19) at http://localhost:8080
Both are on their respective dedicated Tomcat servers that were installed with the applications on my 64-bit Windows 7 system.
Both application links are using OAuth (impersonation) for incoming and outgoing connections with the other.

Since these are local installations that I have made, I am an admin for both.

A sample log entry resulting from this is:

2018-05-04 15:49:50,566 WARN [http-nio-8090-exec-9] [xhtml.view.macro.ViewMacroMarshaller] handleMacroExecutionException Exception executing macro: jira, with message: Unable to locate Jira server for this macro. It may be due to Application Link configuration.

The JIRA issues and Confluence spaces were created using Gaia and the installed templates shipped with Gaia for JIRA and Confluence.
