I am glad that you made this inquiry. It really helps me a lot with looking for shortcomings in SoftwarePlant's documentation. We are currently reworking our Confluence Documentation and Knowledge Base and we are hoping to make a first release by the end of this month (which will covert he Gantt module and BigGantt app). What we will focus on next is the BigTemplate and this should also be released by the end of this year and boosted with very comprehensive and proactive answers to users' questions.
Regarding your inquiry though, for now all I can tell you is that after exporting your data to MPP / MPX files, BigTemplate will do it using our default template which was implemented there in a way to go along with MS Project's API. Sadly, it is not editable at the moment. Once you try to import your file, certain columns may not be pulled properly therefore some fields may not be properly populated. Editable templated are for now enabled when it comes to XLS / XLSX files. It may take awhile though before our app will be able to recognise customized MS Project templates.
